Gail Dummer and Kathy Casey were named as co-recipients of the 1993 Capt. Ransom J. Arthur M.D. Award in recognition of their contributions as co-editors of the first four issues of the USMS Rule Book (1989-1993). Gail has been active in all aspects of swimming including coaching, officiating, administrating, training and competing for several decades. Dummer has been active in different LMSCs, particularly the Greater Indiana Masters LMSC before moving and continuing in service to Michigan Masters. Gail has been volunteering for USMS since 1983 as zone chair from1983-84, as USMS Vice President from 1986-1989, and as a member of the Ad Hoc Officials Committee in 1990 and 1992. In 1988, Dummer received the Chetrick Award from Michigan Masters for those who have given outstanding service and/or best exemplify the spirit and commitment to Michigan Masters Swimming.

She is an associate professor in the Department of Kinesiology at Michigan State University in East Lansing, Mich. Her job involves teaching, service, and research in adapted physical activity and related fields of study. Gail was awarded a grant from the U.S. Olympic Committee in 1993 to conduct disability swimming camps for both training and research at the U.S. Olympic Training Center for elite swimmers with disabilities.
