U.S. Masters Swimming Dorothy Donnelly Service Award
Recipient: | Doug Garcia |
Year: | 2010 |
LMSC: | Colorado |
As coach of Washington State University Masters, Doug demonstrated his advocacy of Masters Swimming by negotiating with the University to lower membership rates. During his tenure with the Inland Northwest LMSC, he served as Webmaster and editor of the Splash Master newsletter, which won the USMS Newsletter of the Year award in 2003. As Chair from 2007-2008, he promoted growth of local teams and oversaw increased membership. Although Doug moved to Colorado in 2008, he redesigned the Inland NW Masters website and maintained it remotely until the LMSC was able to find a new Webmaster. His dedication and follow through was a demonstration of his commitment to the Inland Northwest LMSC. In Colorado Doug found a new Masters team where he volunteered as coach. Despite suffering a prolonged shutdown of their pool for major repairs, Doug guided the Vortex Masters in successfully hosting the 2009 Brute Squad Postal event. On the national level, Doug has chaired the Communication Committee and the Northwest Zone. He has served on the LMSC Development Committee and has attended USMS conventions for well over a decade.
