Susie Powell was an ASCA/USMS Level 3 certified coach with Swymnut Masters in Marin County, Calif. She had been coaching Masters for five years and coached an adult swim fitness program called SwimFit in Novato. In her adult swim fitness program she helped many people who had no butterfly experience at all. She knew how to teach the proper technique so the swimmer learned the proper stroke. She understood it took time, baby steps, and lots of drills. Her philosophy was to help her swimmers to learn without injury by showing them how to do the strokes correctly. She felt the key in every Master swimmer’s aging process was learning moderation, and allowing for a day of rest or a lighter workout now and then, as we get older.
