Capt. Ransom J. Arthur M.D. Award
Recipient: | Meg Smath |
Year: | 2015 |
LMSC: | Kentucky |
Meg Smath’s volunteer service at the national level began in 1991 when she attended her first convention and joined the Publications Committee. She eventually became its chair and edited the USMS Rule Book for many years. Meg’s involvement as an official in the local swimming community let to active participation on the Rules Committee and she served on both committees for over a decade.
With her editorial expertise, Meg helped kick-start USMS’s own flagship publication, USMS Swimmer, and continued to serve as a proofreader, ensuring its high-quality and professionalism. She served on the Executive Committee as USMS Secretary from 2006 through 2009.
Meg contributed to the local swimming community as well, serving as both Secretary and Chair of her LMSC. Her local club, which she helped start at the University of Kentucky, recently celebrated its 25th anniversary. Swimmers look forward to Met’s magnetic, outgoing personality at local meets where she competes and/or officiates.
