U.S. Masters Swimming Club of the Year Award

Recipient: Greenville Splash
Year: 2018
LMSC: South Carolina

Greenville Splash club’s main focus was on charity and making a difference in the lives of others by being active, fun and giving.

Greenville Splash served their membership in many ways. They hosted the LCM South Carolina Championship meet annually for the past 5 years and entered USMS ePostal and Fitness challenges. Events were promoted through newsletters, website, social media accounts, message groups and announcements at workouts. Coaches were USMS certified and swimmers were encouraged to complete fitness challenges and use the USMS Fitness Flog. The club held fun events and activities, for example they played relay games, held a Christmas Vegas workout, and hunted for Easter eggs. The club taught swimming to at-risk youths, volunteered to time at their local swim club, and became ALTs instructors to teach swimming to adults. Volunteers were recognized with team swag. Recognition was given for weight loss, having a baby, or getting married.

Greenville Splash educated its members by sharing stroke advice and technique during workouts and these tips were shared through their newsletters, social media, and message groups. Swim clinics were held and every workout incorporated one technique point to work on.

Greenville Splash grew their membership in 10 years from 4 members to 96. The club annually held 2 big team socials - a Christmas party and an August team picnic. At the Christmas party they hired a band and gave out awards. At the team picnic they held an open water swim, floated in the lake, and had a picnic. Team socials every two months were held at local breweries, restaurants, member’s homes, and at downtown music events. The club held girls’ night out events. The club was very social and close-knit, cared deeply for each other, and made Greenville Splash feel more like a family than a club.
