Mary formed a Masters team, Tom Sayer Masters, where she started as its coach and administrator. Her volunteer work as a local meet official also allowed her to work at USMS National Championship meets. In 1982, Mary became a manager at Lakeside Swim Club, coordinating practices, taking control of aquatic operations, and hosting one of the longest-running local meets in the country.
